You are shopping each US GM brand looking for one new vehicle right at the $55,000 mark. Would you choose:

Kinja'd!!!

A base CT6 with a 2.0T 4-cyl,

Kinja'd!!!

A GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with just enough cash to add on one option,

Kinja'd!!!

A Buick Enclave decked out with nearly every option including the Tucson Edition’s bronze accents,

Kinja'd!!!

Or a Chevrolet Camaro 2SS so decked out that you’ll have to get the options you don’t want just to get it up to the $55,000 mark (which is plenty doable)?

This is just under $220,000 in vehicles. Around the price of plebeian-spec new Ferrari California T (the best $200k vehicle on the market and the third greatest Ferrari ever conceived).

As much as the tiny engine pains me, I’d go with the CT6.

If it helps, the RWD, 272hp CT6 2.0T weighs less than an AWD, Manual, 220hp Audi A4.

That’s 3,647lbs vs 3,649lbs according to google.

As much as I’d like a sedan, I’ll have to go with the fully loaded Enclave. Hell, it probably Cadillacs better than that 4 banger effrontery does anyway. Most Buicks do.

Sierra if those are my only four options. If not then there are a few possibilities I would into. SS, Vette, or ATS Coupe

So I took my mother car browsing last weekend at Carmax. Didn’t buy anything, just let her look and feel cars from every brand. I kid you not, the Buick Veranos were some of the most premium interiors on the lot. Granted, most vehicles were lower spec, but the X6 M, new Mustang GT, E-class, 6-series, etc. all felt disappointing considering the starting prices. The only interiors I liked more were the 2014 or 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and an orange interior 2011 or 2012 Jaguar XJ Supercharged. I personally thought it was right in line with the 2013 Lexus RX350 that I actually took her there to test drive.

Why not an ATS Coupe 3.6 Premium? You can pretty easily hit $55k, without having to check boxes you really don’t want. Just add premium paint, the track performance package, the Kona interior, and 18" wheels.

I want a truck.

But I think I would rather buy the Silverado to get more options.

Yay for rule bending!

Go for it, I just wanted to get one of each vehicle style. Most are fine with a slower sedan if it’s more luxurious, and a more basic coupe if it’s more performance for the money. I almost substituted out the two for the CT6 and Camaro. The Vette was just outside the budget (didn’t consider rebates or such since that works for everything on the list).

Same here. I just looked at a GMC Sierra Denali this morning (not to buy, just to poke around at a future used car purchase). I was completely unimpressed I hate to say. It felt like a mid-trim model (I know that’s how trucks are). I think a top end Silverado is a very smart move that many are missing. My assumption is that there are some suspension and other unseen components that make the Sierra “better” but I doubt I’d miss whatever they are.

I wanted to keep each brand with a different bodystyle. I figured most of Oppo prefers a slower sedan if it has more luxury and prestige (CT6 vs SS Sedan) and a lower end coupe if it has more performance for the money (Camaro SS over ATS Coupe). Feel free to sub in the ATS though.

When you keep each brand a different bodystyle you end up with some oddballs in the end.

That’s my answer too. I realize the trend is unstoppable but I wish gorgeous new luxury autos weren’t transitioning to I4s. Most new Volvos are gorgeous but no longer available with 5 or 6 cylinders

This question is extremely easy: Spend $10k less and buy one of these. I’ll take mine in this color.

Just out of curiosity I went to Buick and built a Regal GS with every option I could find. Only got it up to $42K though.

There really aren’t that many changes!

I cannot believe how expensive trucks have gotten in general.

My Chevy dealer had a really nice V8 4X4 Silverado two door with a short bed. $40K!

It was a nice truck. But for that much money, there are a lot of other vehicles I would consider.

If the Camaro needs the auto to make it to 55K, then give me the Denali.
